Sur le fond de l’oc\u00e9an,<\/strong> par Dominique Jacques<\/p><\/p>\n\n

Le terme upcycling, appliqu\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019art, apparait au milieu des ann\u00e9es 90. Il signifie que la valeur d\u2019un objet r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9 par l\u2019artiste est sup\u00e9rieure a celle de l\u2019objet avant transformation (transformation qui ne modifie pas chimiquement les mat\u00e9riaux). Promu de rebut \u00e0 \u0153uvre unique, de d\u00e9chet consomm\u00e9 \u00e0 mati\u00e8re premi\u00e8re d\u2019un cr\u00e9ateur, l\u2019objet subit une m\u00e9tamorphose et acquiert une nouvelle vie, une nouvelle noblesse, un nouveau sens. <\/p>\n\n

de la cr\u00e9ation appliqu\u00e9 aux d\u00e9chets est donc \u00e0 la fois une d\u00e9nonciation et une recherche de transcendance.<\/p>\n\n

Ok Jeong Lee, qui ,en amont, utilise ces mat\u00e9riaux de rebut par n\u00e9cessit\u00e9, parce qu\u2019ils sont en abondance \u00e0\u00a0 disposition, les restitue en aval sous forme de magnifiques cr\u00e9atures\u00a0 dont la beaut\u00e9 \u00e9voque le danger. Son \u0153uvre est un signal d\u2019alarme, en m\u00eame temps qu\u2019une invitation a projeter notre conscience sur les moyens d\u2019accomplir le futur selon des parametres nouveaux . A partir de bandes magn\u00e9tiques, de compact disc, d\u2019emballages plastiques, elle cr\u00e9e devant nous un monde de\u00a0 sortil\u00e8ges, d\u2019organismes zoomorphes et phytomorphes suspendus\u00a0 dans une atmosph\u00e8re aquatique.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

Comme si nous marchions sur le fond de l\u2019oc\u00e9an, des formes semi immerg\u00e9es fluctuent depuis la surface au dessus de nos t\u00eates.<\/p> \n

Les racines d\u2019un arbre invisible s\u2019agrippent aux mol\u00e9cules de l\u2019air autour de bancs de m\u00e9duses \u00e0 la d\u00e9rive irradiant la lumi\u00e8re de leur corps \u00e9lectrique.<\/p> \n

Dans le sillage des meduses filent des poissons laser nageant \u00e0 la tangente de leurs trajectoires.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

Des \u00e9clairs et des ombres tournoient \u00e0 travers la lanterne magique d\u2019Ok Jeong Lee.<\/p>\n\n

Et dans cet aquarium de synth\u00e8se dont nous sommes l\u2019h\u00f4te provisoire et enchant\u00e9, nous suivons des yeux sur la paroi des halos, oubliant les ombres derri\u00e8re le verre, croyant pour un moment que peut \u00eatre, finalement, nous avons des branchies, que c\u2019est de la lumi\u00e8re que nous inhalons et pas de l\u2019air empoisonn\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n

In my world, wastes or things that are no longer wanted are the seeds place of the creation of Art. Growing up in poverty, these materials were the only way to manifest art without being held back by scarcity. These unwanted materials, expired by trend, time & innovations, show the passage we sailed through as human species. These materials shows our ambitions, success and failures of our time. What it has cost us to get here? Art, made with materials that reveals what it costs us to be where we are. These art pieces tells us the story of what we\u2019ve been ignoring and that now is the time to act!<\/p>\n\n

In Korea, the beautiful country where I come from, wearing masks and receiving heavy metal air contamination alert became part of our everyday life. In India, this beautiful country where I live now, the burning of garbage including plastic often makes the air unbreathable. I wonder will we in India also have to wear masks. Climate change and environment degradation isn\u2019t anymore in the far future. It\u2019s happening now and it\u2019s happening fast. Through listening to those stories these art pieces tells, led me to finding my purpose in life. The last 10 years living in India has been a journey of sustainability. And during that journey I asked myself everyday. \u201cWhat am I actually doing for the environment?\u201d In reflecting the past, I envision the next 10 years with more awareness and responsibility. And this is the question I ask myself, and to you. What can I give back to the earth? What action do I need to take to fulfil my role as a guardian of this planet?<\/p>\n\n
